If you’ve lost multiple teeth in one part of your mouth it can seriously compromise your ability to chew and even influence your speech. A partial is essentially a smaller version of dentures that your dentist can fit you for to restore the full function of your mouth.

During your first appointment the dentist will inspect your mouth and take a series of x-rays to make sure the surrounding teeth are healthy and strong. If you have additional teeth with compromised roots or you’ve lost bone structure you might need other procedures before you can be fitted for a partial.

The dentist will then take an impression of the area and the surrounding teeth. This is sent to a dental lab, where your new partial is made.

Most people like to use denture adhesive to anchor their partial, while also helping to block out food particles. If you do opt to use denture adhesive, you will need to make sure you rinse all of it away when each night.
