Every one of your teeth is anchored into its socket by a series of strong periodontal ligaments. However, there are some extreme situations where a blow to the face can carry so much force that it completely knocks a tooth out. When this happens, some fragments of the tooth often remain in the socket making the tooth unviable for implantation.

A knocked out and lost tooth can often be replaced by having Dr. Garth Collins install a bridge. This is one solid piece of dental work that essentially mimics the appearance and function of the original tooth. It is fused on each end to crowns that will eventually be anchored to abutments formed from the two nearby teeth.

An abutment is essentially the healthy internal core of the tooth left after Dr. Garth Collins removes all of the tooth enamel. He will form the abutments by removing the tooth enamel from the two closest teeth. A hard plastic temporary crown is then cemented over each abutment to protect it. The impression is then sent off to a start of the art dental lab, where your final bridge is made.

Our team will call you back in for a follow-up appointment when your final bridge is ready. This session will be brief, as Dr. Garth Collins removes the two temporary crowns and carefully cements the bridge in place.
